Strawberry Rhubarb pie
Anyone have a good strawberry rhubarb pie recipe??? Steve, I know your mom has a good one! Do you know it?? I checked online, and I don't want one with pudding, because I found a few of those... But I have like 10 pounds of rhubarb that I need to use! And if anyone knows any other good rhubarb recipes, I'd love to hear those as well!!! | | Friday, March 6th, 2009 | | 5:14 pm |

I'm in love...
...with my new iMac!!! This thing is absolutely wonderful!! I love the itty bitty keyboard! I love how easy it is to download and install stuff... I love the 360 degree scroll ball in the mouse! I love that it set up my email for me and all I had to do was enter my email address and password. I also love Widgets. I downloaded a Chia Pet and a lava lamp thing and Sudoku. I also got all my pictures transferred from my old computer. Still need to do my documents and iTunes stuff. Anyone have a copy of Office for Mac I can steal? It's crappy that the school won't even let me have it. Student teacher takes over tomorrow. Guard tonight. Later! :) | | Thursday, January 17th, 2008 | | 6:19 pm |
Fun!!!
My shiny new iMac is on its way here!!! I am having it delivered at school so there is someone around to sign for it. I was going to just see what happened, and pick it up from the carrier after they left the notice that they attempted to deliver it, but you need two freaking forms of ID, and my drivers license STILL doesn't have my new name on it. (That will be remedied very soon, I just sent in the form!!!) Saturday is my race from hell. http://www.teamfatotter.com/race_tracker.phpYou can track our progress. We are doing the "Team half distance", and we are "Team Sucks". I hope we don't end up being "Team Dead", or "Team Got Too Cold So They Had to be Rescued". Yay! :) Current Mood: happy | | Saturday, January 12th, 2008 | | 5:58 pm |
New Computer
I think I'm going to get this. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1185267959940&type=productAny opinions? (I'm sure Michelle and Adam will have something to say!!!!) I was going to get a similar Dell (same deal with everything in the monitor), but the reviews on it were bad, and both people who wrote reviews said to get the Mac instead! And just imagining life without virus software has me all giddy!!! Current Mood: excited | | Thursday, January 10th, 2008 | | 10:49 pm |
Trying something new
I've decided to "join" a farm this year. We've got a nearby organic farm that you can join, and every week they deliver a box of fresh vegetables. I'm pretty excited, and hopefully I'll learn some good recipes for all this stuff. (And eat healthier in the process). www.spiralpathfarm.com if you're interested in checking it out. Dustin has Bucs this weekend, so I will hopefully get out with Christy and do some mountain biking (since it's ridiculously warm), and probably some hiking and running. My Nike + ( http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/) goal for the month is 20 miles. I'm not even halfway there yet... I need to get in some good runs this weekend. I got a membership to the Harrisburg Road Runners club ( http://www.harrc.org/) and they have runs every Sunday morning. It's pretty cool, they are all organized and timed and stuff. We ran with them last Sunday and then went out for bagels when we finished. We plan to run again this Sunday, and every other Sunday that we'll be around. Next Saturday is our crazy 32 mile hike through the wilderness of Wisconsin. The last (and only time) I was in Wisconsin was with Apex! Hopefully I won't die on this race. I'm happy that tomorrow is Friday. I had a rough week. My student teacher starts Monday!! WOOO!!! :) Current Mood: happy | | Thursday, November 22nd, 2007 | | 9:22 pm |
:)
Our first Thanksgiving dinner was a success!! Nothing burned, blew up, or tasted funny! There was tons of food and wine and everyone went home full and happy. I also ran by best 5K time ever this morning!! 24 minutes and 20 seconds! That's 2 minutes and 40 seconds better than my last 5K race! I was really pushing myself, so I'm glad I did well!! My friend Christy finished in 19 minutes and 47 seconds and was the first girl to finish. She got a trophy with a turkey on top! Tomorrow I'm off to Boyds Bear Country with my mom, mom-in-law and sister-in-law. Should be fun, it'll be my moms first visit there! Off to finish watching CSI with my sweetie. It's kind of weird this week. Current Mood: happy | | Monday, November 19th, 2007 | | 9:14 pm |
I'm a big kid now!
Dustin and I are having our families over here for Thanksgiving dinner! It'll be my first turkey! I'm so excited to have a place large enough to have people over, the condo was so freaking small it never would have worked. Dustin and his dad put down the fake wood flooring in the basement last week. It looks great! Now we need to get some furniture, tv, (and a bar??) down there and make it a nice room! Last night we rearranged our living room a bit and made it look less like a college dorm room. We hid our DVD shelves against the brown paneled wall (instead of against the white wall, on either side of the tv) and that made it look a ton nicer! We also got matching end tables from his Grandma that look surprisingly good! Oh, and we FINALLY hung our pictures and shelves up on the walls (instead of me randomly hanging things on whatever nails the last people left...) Tonight we went rug shopping! We ended up getting two of them at Ollies, and one at KMart... Rugs are EXPENSIVE, so we had to go to the cheap places. :) We got a round one for the living room, a runner for the hallway and a huge one for under our bed (it slides all over the place and the supports in the middle keep falling down). We have all hardwood floors upstairs, so we needed some rugs. (And this is the REAL hardwood, not the fake stuff.) I want to take a few weeks and hike some of the Appalachian Trail this summer. The halfway point is pretty close to here. That will give me something to do while Dustin marches corps again this summer. That's it for now. I need to get a shower and then sleep! Last day of school tomorrow until next Tuesday, and I have a guest speaker coming in!! What could be better?? :) Current Mood: happy | | Wednesday, November 7th, 2007 | | 7:55 pm |

Another half
Today I ran another half marathon, this one was in Carlisle. I took 15 minutes off my time from the harrisburg one! I finished in 2 hours and 20 seconds! Woo, yay me! This course was really difficult because of all the hills too! I got a plaque for finished 2nd in my age group. There were only two people in my age group, but I'm still super excited! :) I'm not as sore as I was after the last one, but I am still a little sore. I'm going to get a shower, and Happy needs a shower too, so I think I'll take her along. Current Mood: happy | | Monday, September 10th, 2007 | | 9:35 pm |
Death
I don't like death... If it were up to me, only assholes would die and everyone else would stick around until they felt like going. We went to Bill's funeral on Saturday. The line wrapped around the funeral home.... It was almost like going to a museum. They had one of his race car tires, a checkered flag and a gas can sitting right inside the funeral home. There were a couple of different photo collages. Dustin told me he was being creamated, but he was still there.... I hate looking at dead bodies. I want to remember people as they were alive.... It didn't even look like him, but now every time I think about him I see him lying in that casket.... And he's so tall, it looked like the casket wasn't big enough and he was stuffed in there. I just don't understand why shit like this has to happen.... And I feel horrible, that because of me, Dustin barely got to spend time with Bill this past summer.... It's not that I wouldn't let him, whenever he wanted to go to the races, or go work on the race car I encouraged him to go.... But we were so busy with the wedding, and the honeymoon and buying the house and moving. :( Now he's gone, and Dustin is missing a friend. It's so weird how things work... Bill was in my class in school, but we never hung out. Once Dustin and I started dating, he would take me to the race shop, and to races and we would hang out with Bill, and I was amazed that here was this guy that I never got to know in school, and he's one of the nicest guys. (Not surprising since Dustin is THE nicest guy I've ever met which is why I love him so much.) I'm rambling, I know... I'm just feeling really bummed, and half of my friend's myspaces have these big "RIP BILLY" pictures and stuff all over them. It's so unfair I could just scream. Wii!

The Savage
My friend Christy and I did an adventure race yesterday. Holy crap, talk about the hardest thing I've ever done! It was six hours of non-stop physical activity... And I thought drum corps was hard! Here's how the day went: Arrived around 9 and got all checked in, did our gear check and found a nice grassy place to put all of our crap. (There's a two page list of mandatory gear you need for the race.) The race consists of 4 sections, and your "passport" determines what order you do them in. In order to get your passport at this race, one team member from every team (there were at least 100 teams there) had to run down the road and into the lake and swim out to a boat where they were tossing them out. Christy did that. The lake was freezing! Our first section of the race was canoeing. Luckily we both brought water shoes with us. Next time we bring our own paddles. People had the double sided kayak paddles. The paddles they gave us were just single ones. It took us FOREVER to get around to the 4 checkpoints on the lake. (It was about 5 miles). Double sided paddles probably would have cut off 20 minutes to a half hour. Our second section was "Fun Team Challenges". That consisted of filling a piece of PVC pipe to the top with lake water. Of course you had to run through the lake to get to the island to do this. The pipe had 2 1-inch holes drilled into it that you had to cover with your hands. But you had to take turns using the cup, so every time we switched hands, we lost most of the water we had just put in. The second team challenge was Christy climbing a rock wall. I've never done it before and she goes to the climbing gym all the time. The third was each partner had to be carried around a cone and back. That wasn't too bad except my ankle turned on me and we fell down in a heap. The third section for us was the mountain biking. We were a little nervous because Christy was borrowing a bike and the chain had already popped off once just getting the bike to the starting point. My bike was brand new, but I'd never mountain biked with it, so I had no clue what I was in for. This was the most grueling part of the race. The biking was split into two halves. A friendly co-race-goer told us which part was really hard, so we did that first. I couldn't believe the stuff they expected us to ride bikes up and down! It was scary at points! We had to carry our bikes up and down what seemed like cliffs, over piles of stacked logs, through waist deep water.... It was nuts. We and our bikes were COVERED in mud! Also at one point I ran into a big root and my bike stopped and I didnt. I just slid forward and smashed my girly area into the hand bars. OUCH!!! I had to stop for a few minutes because it hurt SO BAD!! We eventually made it through that and after a quick snack break, started on the second part of mountain biking. That was a bit flatter, the water wasn't waist deep (only a little above the knees!) and there was actually a marked trail to follow. Once we finished that, we both wanted to lie down and die. But we still had 5 miles of running to do. And an hour left before the 6 hour cut-off point! Needless to say, I was NOT into running by this point. Christy was so thrilled to be off the bike, she was ready to go and took off. I felt like the fat kid in gym class, plodding along behind her. It didn't help that my back pack was NOT fit for running. I should have tested that out before we left. My brain was broken by that point too, so Christy took the map, ran ahead and would slow down or stop every now and then to wait for me. (We weren't supposed to be more than 100 feet apart at any time!) She navigated like a pro! We didn't get lost at all and found all the check points! There were a handful of other teams in the woods too, who also were just hoping they could finish the race within the time period. I tripped over a root or rock (or maybe just my foot??) and fell pretty hard. My leg and knee are all scraped up. Christy wouldn't let me lay down on the trail and stop though, so we kept going. Somehow, we made it.... I hurt so bad and my ears were ringing and I was covered in goosebumps and my thigh cramped up and started twitching... but Christy got me to the end and we finished the race having done every single checkpoing for every event. The best part was when the official at the finish said "This team is an OFFICIAL finisher!". We couldn't believe we'd finished within time! I almost cried I was so happy! I plopped down with a bag of chips they had there and sat for a few minutes. Then I found a medic and had him clean off my gross bleeding muddy leg. He wrapped it all up for me. We sat for a little longer, then decided to hike back up the huge hill to where the car was parked and just drive it down to collect our gear. They weren't kidding when they named it "Adventure Racing". I am so glad that we decided to take personal days today. I feel like I've been hit by a truck. But it's almost a good feeling, knowing that we finished the race! We are hoping to find another 6 hour race to do before the 12 hour one. And now that we have a much better idea about this, we know how to train a bit better for it. We decided that we probably won't be attempting the 24 hour one anytime soon. I don't even want to attempt the 12 hour one (All the distances are exactly double the ones for the 6 hour race) without doing another 6 hour one and getting a better time on it. That's all I have for now! Time to get dressed and attempt to do something normal today. Current Mood: sore | | Thursday, March 8th, 2007 | | 6:47 pm |
Ew.
I just sneezed and a piece of cauliflower came out. Gross. Current Mood: amused | | Tuesday, January 16th, 2007 | | 4:47 pm |
Leaving on a jetplane....
Last night we had our honeymoon flight booked! Yay for dad and his frequent flier miles, we don't have to pay for the plane! We are spending a week at Disneyworld!!! Now we just need to find a place to stay, and get some tickets. We definitely want to stay in one of the Disney resorts.... Any ideas? Current Mood: excited |
